Role of Parents High School vs. College
High School
- Teachers speak openly with parents about their student's progress in the classroom
- Parents receive and sign progress reports
- Parents can request meetings with their student's teachers at anytime
- Parents are expected to be an advocate for their student
College
- Professors cannot discuss the student's academic progress with their parents without written consent from the student
- The college or university does not provide parents with progress or attendance reports
- If the student needs to meet with a professor, they need to be the one that requests the meeting
- The student is expected to be his or her own advocate
